Arthur’s Food Store in Port Kembla is a casual café where locals and visitors come for straightforward, well-made coffee and hearty café fare that suits a relaxed morning or midday break. Tucked along Wentworth Street, it offers a laid-back atmosphere that reflects the evolving vibe of Port Kembla’s growing food scene, with a mix of indoor seating and a creatively set backyard area that invites you to linger over your chai latte or flat white.

The café really shines as a spot for breakfast or lunch, especially if you’re after something familiar but crafted with care. The brekky burger and toast with scrambled eggs—especially when paired with bacon and avocado—are popular with those wanting a filling, no-fuss meal. For vegans or those with dietary needs, the kitchen is willing to adapt, as seen in custom dishes made with fresh sourdough, mushrooms, and avocado, enhanced with a distinctive tomato relish and a house-made sauce that gets noticed.

Locals tend to drop by for their daily coffee fix, drawn by coffee that’s consistently well executed and a menu that has enough variety to satisfy both kids and adults. The crowd is a mix of families, couples, and people dropping in during their workday, often bringing dogs along, which adds to the welcoming, community-oriented feel. This is not a high-end or trendy café but more a spot where regulars feel at home and newcomers quickly get invited into the rhythm of the place.

While there’s no extensive focus on plant-based or greens-heavy options yet, the kitchen’s flexibility suggests potential for accommodating various preferences if you ask. People who value gluten-free choices will find some tasty options, although cross-contamination concerns have been noted, hinting at room for tighter handling for sensitive diners.

The best time to visit is mid-morning or lunchtime, especially when the backyard area is open and the café’s pace slows enough to enjoy the neighbourhood’s industrial-meets-coastal vibe. This isn’t a venue for a rushed coffee; it’s the kind of place you can walk into during your weekend exploration or a weekday break and feel part of the ongoing local rhythm, with simple, honest food and a coffee that keeps you coming back.

We stopped in here for lunch on our way past on our travelling holiday and had the steak sandwiches, and it was probably the best food I've eaten out in ages. The tomato relish is so good we bought a jar to take home and will be stopping in for more on our way back past, the kids had the cheese burgers which looked awesome, and they finished them (which says alot). Was a nice spot to stop after driving a few hours and definitely worth the detour of the highway.

What a hidden gem! Loved the creative backyard seating. Food was delicious, as was the chai! Would be nice if there were more greens and veggie options.

Came here for breakfast this morning with my girlfriend and we were super impressed. We're both vegan, and even though they didn't have anything on the breakfast menu for us the chef was able to accommodate and cook us up a delicious sourdough with mushrooms, avocado, tomato relish and a magical sauce to die for. Seriously, can we buy a tub of that stuff? We brought our dog with us as well, and without asking the staff brought out a bowl of water for her. Lovely staff, excellent service, great food and a chilled rustic aesthetic.

Cosy local Cafe. Yummy gluten-free options. Was a concern tho when staff asked if I wanted my gluten-free items in the same paper bag as the regular/gluten items I bought for my partner. So slightly concerned there could be a cross contamination issue due to lack of training or understanding. Will go again for takeaway only. Can recommend the biscotti highly.

In case you haven’t heard Port Kembla is back baby and it’s quickly turning into the next hip cafe spot to sample amazing coffee and delicious food. Arthur’s is a family run affair and its easy to see why this place has a line out the door every day for their perfectly executed coffees. It’s the spot where locals and well informed visitors get their daily hit of caffeinated relief. Don’t be put off by the people gathered outside, there is a lot of take away business and the staff manage to get everyone sorted pretty efficiently. If you are looking for a dine in option just head on upstairs or out back after making your order at the counter. So let’s talk about the food!! Arthur’s is all about homemade realness, and I mean proper home made hearty and delicious food made fresh and with real thought and skill. Brekky or lunch are your options and if you can’t find something in the cabinet to satisfy your cravings there is a black board menu that isn’t cluttered and provides a good amount of choices to satisfy even the fussiest of food critics. Don’t leave without grabbing something to take home. There are banks of fridges and display tables that have everything you need to continue your Arthur’s experience in your own home. The family sized servings of hearty meals, delicious desserts and decadent cakes and slices will have you coming back time after time. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is eclectic and funky so make sure you check out this amazing spot and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely beautiful breakfast and take away cakes. Do yourself a favour and pop into Arthur’s for any meal! My lovely wife says best coffee she has had in months and my chocolate thick shake was awesome. Service was on point, friendly, polite and food was served promptly. We will be back!

The best chai on the planet and great coffee too. The cabinet of delicious food choices traps you in overwhelmed paralysis. But it's the friendly staff, and a fantastic location amongst the craft shops that caps it all off. What's not to like? Our favourite place for elevenses!
